Community Partners Project
For the past month and a half the innovations class has been working with our community partners to help solve problems they are facing within their businesses. My team and I chose to work for the local Goldfish Swim School. Maggie, Tyler and I all chose the Swim School because of our passion for working with kids. Our task: Attract and maintain new kids and employees to the School. So how'd we go about this problem?
After we discovered this idea wasn't going to work out, we decided to try and tell Highschoolers about Goldfish through the job board or fair. We eventually decided against this when talking to our community partner but still believed this was a step in the right direction on this project.
My job during this project was to communicate between the Swim school, elementary and ourselves. This was definitely an amazing experience. It had moments where we couldn't get our ideas through, or the timing wasn't right, like when we couldn't figure out how to get a dunk tank to work at a half time of a game. We realized this idea was a bust and couldn't work it out now but maybe it could work next year. Overall, our group did a great job working out kinks and finding new solutions. It was cool to be in this real world work setting where actual business went down. I felt like I learned how to approach situations with a more professional and business oriented mind set. Through this project I believe I will be more prepared to work with and in a real work environment.
If I were to do this project again I would have jumped on the horse quicker. We started this Swim night with the two schools, but we never got to see it all the way through because we ran out of time. Granted this was the first time any of us have done this type of project before. But we still plan on visiting the Swim night to see how this idea played out and what kinks we needed to fix in it. I'm excited to see what our work will do!
